Any surgeries in the last six months?
One month ago before he was admitted to Holly Hill, Josiah attempted suicide by throwing himself from the top of a tree. He suffered multiple lacerations from tree limbs as well as a compound fracture of his left arm. He required surgery to repair the broken ulna and radius, resulting in two metal bars to be placed in his left arm.
Patient presents with:
Symptoms/Behavioural disorder:
Josiah actively speaks of his captor, though he does not refer to him by name. He refuses to see his time with his captor as anything but a positive experience and readily defends the obvious signs of abuse that his body recorded during his time with said captor. Josiah has attached to his captor emotionally and mentally to the point where he has become the sole obsession of his life. Josiah often speaks of how he is sexually excited by the feeling of someone watching him – if he can “feel” someone’s eyes on him he will become sexually aroused as he can then input the face of his captor in his imagination as though he is watching him.
History:
- Josiah was abducted from school at age 15. He wasn’t recovered until age 17 when an anonymous tip led police to his location. His captor was never found nor convicted and Josiah refuses to give any information about the man. It is clear that the man both sexually and physically abused Josiah. Despite this, Josiah seems to have bonded with his captor and confesses feelings of “love” towards him.
- Josiah’s parents attempted to rehabilitate him from home by surrounding him with a large church family full of loving people. This only made the situation more adverse for the young man. Afraid he would never be reunited with his captor after several failed attempts to run away from home, Josiah threw himself from the top of a large pecan tree in the back yard of the Quin family’s home. He suffered a minor concussion as well as a compound fracture to his left arm.
- After the attempted suicide, Josiah was admitted to Holly Hill hospital where he was diagnosed with Stockholm’s Syndrome. The fetishism diagnosis came after several incidents of Josiah indecently exposing himself to other patients and becoming sexually aroused as they looked at him.
- Josiah was raised in a middle class highly religious environment up until his abduction. His father is a pastor at a local church and his mother a nurse at Wake Medical Hospital.
- Josiah has threatened another suicide attempt if not released from Holly Hill so he may reunite with his captor.
